I have to admit, I am a bit nervous.
It is for a National organization and I will have a celebrity on board as our first guest speaker.

Have any of you done an evening HOA, if so what time usually works best?
I am thinking of a Tuesday or Thursday evening around 7 EST.

Thankful for this group!!

Has anyone developed a Quick Start Guide for HOA guests who have never been in a Hangout and perhaps don't even have a Google account?  Clearly a practice run is necessary in such cases, but a good instruction sheet or instructional video would be helpful to make the process less intimidating.

I am looking at tools that would make it easy to use an HOA to host a 'live' Webinar (since most of my people are NOT on G+).

I've gotten 2 thumbs down reports about Webinar Jam from Hangout mastery community. Is anyone pro Webinar Jam here?

Business Hangouts have nice features but I don't like the black interface, with too much going on for first time viewers and the viewing window gets small once embedded into my website....

Creating a landing page on my website means viewers need to press the play button to start the webinar and then I need to get a chat thread and will have no easy way to know who is watching the broadcast....

Any other ideas? I'm starting to wonder if I should go back to Instant Telesummit for the launch and then HOA for group programs.... Kinda disappointing.

I've had several comments on my new profile picture.

I discovered something today I thought I'd share with you.

I discovered something today I thought I'd share with you. I was practicing for my hangout/webinar tomorrow evening and I was making sure the PowerPoint slides I was going to use were aligned correctly by using the Screen Sharing option on the Hangout Tool bar. Here is what I discovered: If you are going to use PowerPoint slides open the presentation and enable the "full screen" option in the lower left hand corner of your presentation. The icon is an open booked titled "reading view." when you click it once it will toggle to full screen view. That way when you screen share you'll be able to see the slides as you utilize them. If you use the Slide Show option you wont be able to see anything but your slides, no comments or anything. Most of you probably already know this but I thought I'd share for those of us who are discovering something new each day

The Comment Tracker collates comments from Google+, YouTube & Twitter to give the Host of the Hangout the opportunity to reply and interact directly with the viewing audience.

The Comment Tracker will be presented in two parts:

Part 2 – comments from Twitter

This first article shows you step-by-step, using detailed screen-shots, on how to install and setup the Hangout Comment Tracker for the Google+ Event page and YouTube.

How to Create Custom Hangout Lower Thirds with iPiccy
(Click on album below for step by step guide)

If you host or guest on a Google+ Hangout On Air, you’ve probably seen those “newsroom” like bars at the bottom of the screen identifying the person above it.

These bars are referred to as lower thirds.
Google+ Hangouts has a third party app called the Hangout Toolbox
This is the number one used Hangout app, which is not surprising due to its simplicity and features such as the ability to upload your brand logo and save your lower thirds as presets.

I've written a detailed article on my NewRayCom blog that includes a short video that shows you how to quickly add a Lower Third using the Hangout Toolbox.
You can read it here:  http://goo.gl/6QqycV

To take advantage of the great branding opportunities that Hangouts provide, I create custom Lower Thirds and Graphics using the free Chrome extension, iPiccy

There are many free photo editors available for those of us who are Photoshop challenged, but I always find myself going back to iPiccy for its ease of use and number of features.

I've included an album of my screen shots to make it easy for you to scan through. If you need more detail or want to watch the video, go to www.newraycom.com.

1, 2 - Download the iPiccy Chrome extension and "start editing".

3.  Click on the “more” option, then on “new image”.

4. The optimal size for a HD video is 1280px x 720px

5. Make sure your background is transparent. (Then save as a .png file)

6. To create a typical “identification lower third bar”, I choose a rectangular shape after clicking the “shapes” icon.

7. Choose size and colour of banner.Select transparency. I usually around 20% works well. , effect and degree of transparency. I find 20% works well.

8. Import a brand logo or your profile image by clicking on the photo icon next to “add photo”. You can upload one from your computer or choose one that you’ve already uploaded.

9. Add text to your lower third. (or anywhere else inside the view area).  _Be careful your text or graphics don’t hide you. Best to keep them near the outside frame._
I keep graphics within a 200px frame on either side and 150px from the bottom.

10. You can add other images or add text. Again, be careful to allow enough "empty space" in the centre of your frame.

11. Click on the checkmark and save as a .png file to your hard or Google Drive.

12. Your finished Hangout overlay. Notice all you see are the elements you added.

13. Open a Hangout and open the Hangout Toolbox. Go down to “custom overlay”, click on the “custom upload” button and upload the .png file you just saved.

14. Turn the custom overlay feature "on" and check to see if it appears.

15. While leaving the custom overlay “on”, type the name of the file in the “saved presets” field and hit “save”. The file will show up at the bottom of your "presets" and be available when you open a hangout.
(The toolbox has an option to have the last Lower Third you used to automatically appear when you load a new Hangout. (upper right gear wheel - settings)

The saved presets list is a super tool for accessing special promo graphics that you want to use during your hangouts such as call to actions, web links etc..

I hope you found this helpful. Please share if you and think others might also.

h/t Ronnie Bincer for inspiring the format of this post.

Have a great weekend!

This community rocks, thank you!

I learned a few things that you CAN'T DO in an HOA.

I learned a few things that you CAN'T DO in an HOA.  In the short video below, one of my primary guests had extremely limited bandwidth.  My intended solution was to include him as a voice-only (telephone) guest.  The Hangout app add on Uber Conference would not load, for some reason, this morning.  Knowing that our video hangout meetings often included telephone participants, I asked our meeting coordinator how she did it.  She said that while in the video hangout, click the Add People button and there will be an option to add a telephone number.  That number is dialed and whomever answers can participate.  This will not work if you initiate the video hangout from a page (as opposed to a profile).  It will also not work if you are doing a Hangout On Air (as opposed to a video hangout.
After three false starts.... (nope that's not going to work, repeat, repeat) we had an interesting discussion about an upcoming robotics competition.

A personal "Thank You" to Denise Wakeman and Mia Voss for the mention of our community on their HOA today! We gained three new members!  :)

Hello everyone.

Hello everyone. I was in a HOA today with Denise Wakeman and this community was mentioned as a great group to join, contribute to and to learn more from. I am a very strong believer in people helping each other and hope to share and contribute where possible.

I am a professional virtual assistant (24 years - The 24 Hour Secretary) and the publisher of Book Marketing Mag. I plan to use HOAs to host VA workshops and to interview members of the literary industry.

I look forward to connecting with as many of you as possible.

The Happiness Hangout - moving you towards Happier HOAs
Are you nervous about holding your next HOA? Are you worried about your presentation, or the technology? Are you getting stressed?

Join Dave Williams, The Happiness Advocate and me, The Hangout Helper as we explore what to do about these issues.

Do you feel that the last HOA you held didn’t meet your expectations? Your message wasn’t understood or the audience didn’t engage? You feel frustrated and you’re bummed out? Do you feel you likely won’t hold another HOA?

Come to our Hangout on Air this Friday (or watch this later) and learn about the Happiness Advantage... Hear about what the latest research in Positive Psychology from Harvard & Univ. of Pennsylvania says that can help you hold your next HOA without feeling stressed and instead feeling really satisfied and happy.

We’re also going to discuss the 4D process that is designed to help you focus on positive outcomes, reduce the natural negativity bias and help you deliver a HOA that meets & exceeds your expectations.

Please share this event with your friends and associates and/or invite them to the show. Also feel free to ask questions in the comments and we'll try to feature them in the show as well.

And, Sheila Hensley for going first.  Since Rayne Dowell and I scheduled an event at the same time, I offered to reschedule and did so; but, in my haste did not make it public.   This is the last one.  I hope I get it right this time. 8PM CST

YouTube Copyright strikes and other related issues
This link below is to the official YouTube help page where you can read up on some of the results of strikes and Content ID Matches on your account.

This is an area that can cause quite a bit of problems. Note how you may loose some of the long list of features if your account is not in "good standing". This is why I take a very conservative approach to what I show in my live Hangouts On Air.

Want to know how to best use Google's Hangouts on Air tool?
You've come to the right place - Play the short video here to see this new method to show links next to a video - the links displayed are real & can get you the help you need. This is not an Event you missed, but a new way to show a video and links.

I've got some helpful links on the side here to get you going when you want to create compelling Interactive Hangout on Air broadcasts. What do you think of this novel way to use the 'still in beta' Promotions app?

Click the video to see it in action. The links show on the right while the video plays on the left. h/t: Mike Downes for the discovery of this technique.

Hi to all the Aussie G+'ers and more especially to those interested;

to ask for a bit of help regarding learning, practicing and doing HOA's and SHOAE's  within or close to the Australian [when I'm awake] timezones.

My goal is to become proficient in doing a Mobile HOA (Private) of my daughter's wedding at the beginning of November for people in the groom's family who couldn't travel from Ireland to Australia to be a part of the celebrations.

Important Notice

Due to a required change in my daily routine I will not have access to a computer between the hours of 8AM-Noon Eastern. Therefore, I shall no longer be able to hold the morning HOA Hosted Chat.

The other Hosted Chats will continue as usual.

Thanks for your understanding

HI Andrew Hatchett  & Michael Daniels I won't bug you all over the Holiday weekend, but I will like to pop in on Monday at 6.  I am deep into this Virtual Chapter, and have a few questions. WE have set up the community, and the Page...do we need to set up a Profile as well?  I have been watching the hangouts that you all did with Heather, I really like that setup of posting the event in the Community. I need to practice.  Thank you!!

Hello User2Users!

Hello User2Users!

Some of you will know me on Google+ already and maybe particularly as a member of Ronnie Bincer's Hangout Mastery community. I've heard User2User mentioned a lot and always with great affection.

For those who don't know, I am based in the UK in Bournemouth, on the sunny south coast of England (about halfway along the bottom of the UK map triangle). I jointly own and run a digital marketing company and have done so for the last 7 years. In my spare time, apart from being with my wife Linda of 30 years and 3 children, I am a big fan of my local football (soccer) team, AFC Bournemouth.

I have been active on Google+ since November last year and like most of us I have grown to really like it here. For me, there is nowhere like it. and it is the closest I have seen of the character of offline networking in an online world.

Hangouts on Air are my next dive into the Plus and recently began The Great British Hangout with Kath Dawson. We've been having a lot of fun and learning so much. It's great to be here with so many HOAers.

We will have members practice these things:

We will have members practice these things:
► How to setup a SHOAE
► Who to invite (especially if wanting to use Comment Tracker)
► How to invite others
► How to run the show
► How to be the guest (or a wingman)
► Get your banner and promote afterwards

There were about 6 or 7 folks interested in practicing being a host and starting a hangout and also practicing being a guest.  If this sounds like you, come on!
Each week hereafter we will let a different person be a host of a Hangout... From Setup to the End.

Just go to the Event page and then click the [TICKET] button in the details section.
