I'm trying to locate the best device to interface/convert my Sony EVI D100 camera as a second video source for ManyCam. Has anyone found a reliable converter that (a)connects via USB 3.0 (b)is compatible with Windows 8.1 ? Aside from the excellent video output, I really like the position presets and quick auto-focus/zoom capabilities of this device.

The previous converter I had worked well on Windows XP but does not work at all on Win7/8. Two others I have tried work okay on WIn7/USB 2.0 but not at all on WIndows 8.1.

  1. Lon McClure I've no personal experience but I know John Brown and Terry Leigh Britton are interested in this area so maybe they'll chime in.

  2. Does your camera have a HDMI out?  If so there are great HDMI Converter cards that works well.  I use one as a matter of fact.  It is great.

  3. Nope. RCA video and S-Video only. I wish it had HDMI!

  4. Lon McClure your camera has only two video out options, S Video and RCA. No audio is supported.  One could buy a video converter like http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011406&p_id=9994&seq=1&format=2
which could be connected between the camera and your computer to convert from the RCA output of your camera to HDMI.
You'd still need a way to capture the HDMI signal into your computer (a video capture card like Black Magic Design or AverMedia or others) but even then, my installation of ManyCam has never supported my capture card.  ManyCam (as I understand it) will only capture USB cameras, and certain IP cameras which support a specific video protocol -- mjpg.)  Michael Daniels might know something I don't about other video options.
Another  note, although one might create a video path from camera to computer, no return path for control functions (pan, tilt, zoom) is inherent in such a connection.  You'd have to establish another means for controlling motion of the camera. Either the remote or another control device using the RS232 connection.
I'm not seeing any (simple) way to utilize that camera.  Let us know if you find out otherwise.

  5. I sure will let you know if I find a way, John Brown .  Beginning to look like this camera won't be a good solution. I just had it laying around and thought I could put it to good use. I had planned to use the remote for PTZ and position presets. I'll wait a few days to see if anyone comes up with an affordable method to use this camera with my current setup. If not, off to ebay it goes!

  6. Lon McClure I thought perhaps BlackMagic or AverMedia might support a direct connection to your camera through one of their cards, and in browsing their hardware options found this:
    http://www.avermedia-usa.com/AVerTV/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?Id=511
It purports to allow you to connect your RCA video out to this device and plug this device into a USB2 port to facilitate input of analog video to digital processing.  The question is, will ManyCam recognize this USB device and it's pass through signal.  At $43 it might be worth a trial run.  As long as you can return it if it doesn't work.

  7. I've tried a few of these devices, John Brown with no success on my current laptop (HP Envy i7 12GB Win8.1). I was hoping to find another user that had already solved this but it looks like I am to be the guinea pig on this one. It's a beautiful camera with great lenses, zoom, etc. I hate to give up on it but that may be the most economical solution in the long run.
